Podcast: Week 4 Diving into the Dialectic (via Hegel, head first)

2013-05-21 MA Media Arts Philosophy Practice Term 1 2012/13

Lecture/Seminar: The Sum is Greater than the Whole of its Parts: Σ >() + (-)

What it really means to say this and how it matters to us. Universals, abstractions,
thesis/anti-thesis/synthesis (a small matter of movement, ‘sublation’, ‘transcendence’,
immanence/becoming).

What is a ‘this’ of truth? Where is ‘here’? How does this odd thing called ‘sublation’ work
(and its bearing on subjectivity/objectivity). Bonus consideration: in what way does it
involve the (or ‘a’) ‘negative’?
